About Scouting

Scouting is over 100 years old. Founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell in the UK and based around his ethics, morals and beliefs about the training of young people to become useful and responsible members of society. The Movement grew spontaneously and today ‘Scouts’ is the largest youth organisation in the world with over 28 Million worldwide and 60,000 members in Australia.

The Scouting method is based on three main factors, ‘Duty to God’, ‘Duty to Self’ and ‘Duty to Others’ and Scouts all over the world make a Promise to live by the Scout Law.

Scouting is voluntary, educational and non-political and is available for all young people.
Our programs are flexible with a wide range of activities adapted to meet the needs of young people in the community. Activities are based on the interests of the young people with an emphasis on useful skills and service to others. Many activities make use of the 'outdoors' theme and have a spirit of adventure and a challenge.

Scouts everywhere:
• Have a firm commitment to a code of living (the Promise and Law)
• Work together in small groups under their own (youth) leadership with adult assistance
• Participate in progressive and stimulating programs of varied activities
• Have a sense of service to the community
• Learn by doing

Scouting in the modern world is as relevant as ever before and some believe that it has greater application in light of society’s intolerances and reliance on digital forms of entertainment and recreation.

Famous Scouts include:
• Bear Grylls (Current Chief Scout, Adventurer and TV presenter)
• Bill Gates (Founder of Microsoft)
• David Beckham (Footballer)
• Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter actor)
• Dick Smith (Australian Entrepreneur)
• Neil Armstrong (First man on the moon)

The Scout Law

Be friendly
Care for others and the environment
DO WHAT IS RIGHT
Be trustworthy, honest and fair
Use resources wisely
BELIEVE IN MYSELF

Face challenges with courage
