Grey Wolf Hikes

Picture
The Grey Wolf Award is the highest achievement for a Cub Scout, it is the Cub Scout's  equivalent to the Queen Scout Award and one that not all Cub Scouts will be able to obtain.  However if you work hard and go above and beyond the weekly Cub Scout Program it is achievable by any Cub Scout!

One of the requirements is the Gold Boomerang, however the rest of the requirements can be worked on during the year while you are  working towards your Gold Boomerang. You do not need to wait until that is finished before working on the other bits.

If you want more information have a look in your Cub Scout Record book, speak to one of your Cub Scout Leaders or ask a Cub Scout or Scout who has already done theirs.

Good luck and have FUN!

Patrick's Grey Wolf Hike
13 March 2016

On Sunday the 13 of March 2016, some of the Albany creek sixers, second’s and I started my grey wolf hike by walking to one of the north side entrance of Bunyaville Conservation Park. We walked through Bunyaville conservation park and ended at our starting point. It rained a bit through out the hike but we still found our way.
I had bought morning tea for everyone on the walk and it was delicious. We had some mini babybells, granola bars, oat bars and peaches. I thought buying the food was fabulous and spectacular.
It took us around 2hours and 15 minutes,15 minutes later than I expected. We saw some big hills, lots of trees, a few concrete paths and a couple of small streams (small enough to jump over). I did a Scouts Own and told the cubs I was with and my journey through scouts so far. In this walk I would rate terrain 3/5 and awesomeness 4.99/5

Bronwyn’s Grey Wolf Hike
17 September 2016

On the 17th of September 2017 I successfully did my Grey Wolf hike along the South Pine River starting at the IGA (Eatons Hill) and ending at the Drapers Road skate park (Eatons Hill). I brought along Jenna, Liam, Tyler, Storm and Hawkeye as my adult leader. About a quarter of the way (after our first geocache) we stopped for a rest and a snack when a few magpies started begging for our food. We eventually shooed them away after chasing them and making a big fuss. We carried on and then started looking for our next geocache that was nearby (which I placed the day before). All together there were six geocaches. Everyone worked together to find all six, and so they did it without any of my assistance (for I knew where they were in case they didn’t find them after my clues). We ended the hike with a well-deserved Zooper Dooper. It took a long hour and a half ( it was 5km) but I didn’t lose any Cubs. Thank you to those four cubs for being able to attend and thanks to Hawkeye for assisting me in getting my Grey Wolf Badge.

Jenna's Grey Wolf Hike
15 July 2017

My Grey Wolf hike was up Mt. Ngungun, and I had a fantastic time! We had popcorn halfway to the top, which was a good snack to keep us going. After that, we climbed in the cool cave like opening in the side of the rock, which was really fun. Then we found the bum rock. The bum rock was an awesome rock shaped like... you guessed it ( if you couldn't guess, hence the name). When we reached the top, we managed to snap at the awesome view waiting for us. We also had Pringles. Nobody can forget the Pringles. Whenever we took a photo, I had to turn around and check that a certain cub ( you know who you are ) wasn't doing bunny ears behind me. Apart from that, we all had a great time on Mt. Ngungun!

Rylan's Grey Wolf Hike
20 August 2017

My Grey Wolf Hike was great. We hiked around Lake Samsonvale, on a track called Bullocky Rest. We had a snack halfway around the track, and just before half way we took a quick detour where Hawkeye asked us some questions about the hike so far and we all enjoyed it. We found loads of ant nests (termites) up in the trees and on the ground. It was quite cool when we saw the inside when Ethan split one open. We took quite a lot of happy snaps and just had to check nobody was doing bunny ears behind my back! But other than that the hike was amazing. We hiked about 4 and a half kilometres.  When we left it was only 6 degrees, but warmed up a bit by the end.  Overall, the hiking trail was nice and easy, and we only had to go up one really steep hill.  Thanks heaps to Hawkeye and my Cubs mates for coming with me!!
